STAGE TO SCREEN ~ a musical revue
Cantoris' final 2018 concert is a salute to choral music and the joy of singing together - Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle.
Better known to audiences as a composer of comic operas, and by his own admission far more comfortable in that realm, Gioachino Rossini also composed chamber music and scared works. One of the better known pieces in this genre is his Petite Messe Solennelle – Little solemn mass. Written in 1863, it is commonly attributed as a birthday gift for the Countess Louise Pillet-Will, the wife of his good friend and confidant Count Alexis Pillet-Will. Cantoris will share the the stage and perform this superbly crafted dedication with one of New Zealand’s sought after concert pianists, Diedre Irons. Come and delight in the heartfelt yet unpretentious study that Rossini hoped would finally ‘grant him into Paradise’.
