Mozart - Great Mass in C Minor and Haffner Symphony No.35
Cantoris Choir begins its 50th Anniversary celebrations in grand style, performing Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor.
The choir will share the stage for this great Mass with the New Zealand School of Music Orchestra. The Mass was written between 1782-1783 in Vienna, and despite being incomplete for reasons unknown, it is considered to be one of Mozart's greatest compositions. Even though we are left with only fragmented collections of the manuscripts, the Mass carries all the pomp and solemnity of its period and place, and was first performed in the church of St Peter's Abbey in Salzburg. The choir and orchestra will be joined by Wellington-based soloists; Georgia Jamieson Emms, Michaela Cadwgan, Jamie Young and William King. The New Zealand School of Music Orchestra will open the concert with Mozart’s spirited Haffner Symphony No. 35, led by student conductor Reuben Brown.
