STAGE TO SCREEN ~ a musical revue
To celebrate the Suffrage 125 year, Cantoris Choir is proud to present a concert that will bring to life and shine a spotlight on women's achievements in music composition from different time periods and opposite sides of the globe. The choir will perform music from 3 women composers of significance - New Zealander Jenny McLeod's Sun Festival Carols and also Gillian Whitehead's Missa Brevis. These two imaginative pieces are paired with American composer, Amy Beach's headstrong Festival Jubilate. These 3 pieces speak individually of their writers and combine to form a powerful and unique programme that will please any audience, whether those knowledgeable in chorale music or the simply curious. This concert will also feature piano compositions by local Wellington composer, Elaine Sharman QSM. Elaine's music will be played by one of our multi-talented choir members, Martyn Bailey. As part of the concert's celebration of women and their achievements, $5 for every ticket sold will be donated to Trade School Kitchen, an initiative that offers barista training to women from Arohata Women’s Prison to give them a chance to turn their lives around through employment.
